Green Door Microneedling Review

Green Door Microneedling Review

I was invited to try Microneedling at Green Door Salon in Randpark Ridge Shopping Centre on the 23 February, this is just what my skin needed. Green Door is a small unique salon that offers various treatments from Nimue Microneedling treatment, Thermal Charcoal Facials, Pedicure and Manicures. They also sell some amazing skincare products including one of my favourites Nimue.

About Green Door

Green Door is South African brands that support the local community and economy while taking into account delivering highly scientific and specialized services at an affordable rate. All treatments also performed by internationally qualified Somatologists.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that uses tiny needles to puncture the skin continuously. You probably think what! Who wants to go and have needles puncture their face? I have to admit I am not a fan of needles. But if there is any kind of result sign me up.

You’re probably wondering why you would want to prick your skin with needles and all my friends that saw me after the procedure in unison agreed that I was crazy. Bat shit crazy was one comment. But let me explain there are good reasons that you would want to do this.

  • The pinpricks create mini “injuries” on the skin. This causes your body to kick-start the skin’s healing process. Studies show that it leads to the “generation of growth factors which stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the papillary layers of the dermis”  The result of this is plumper skin.
  • The tiny holes made by the needles crate micro-channel that allow your skin care to absorb into the skin more effectively.

Microneedling Results

Microneedling or skin needling produce similar results to dermabrasion, lasers and deep chemical peels, but it is much less invasive and does not require the removal of the top layer of the skin. It stimulates the production of collagen and helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine line, pores and improves skin sagging. No just reading two of these and I have my hand up shouting me me me!!!! There is also the ability for the skin to heal which could help with fading of scaring. Acne scarring can benefit from microneedling. Microneedling also improves overall skin texture.

My Treatment – Nimue Microneedling Treatment with TDS and SuperFluids

This treatment visibly rejuvenates the skin with a specialised microneedle device to stimulate collagen induction in conjunction with customised Nimue-TSD TM and SuperFluids. This treatment can only be performed by a qualified skin health professional accredited by a Nimue Educator.

When I arrived at the salon, I was asked to complete a questionnaire. Once this was completed I was taken to the beautiful treatment room with a quote that speaks particularly to my heart.

Chantal the Somatologist explained the procedure and recommended that we take the Nimue Microneedling down to my décolletage area. I was happy with this suggested treatment as I have some acne scarring on my décolletage area. She started with the treatment which included the following steps

  • Eye make-up remover
  • Cleansing gel
  • Skin analysis
  • Conditioner
  • Enzyme exfoliator

Chantal then applied a numbing cream on my skin before the microneedling was to start. While we waited for it to take effect she gave me a hand massage. This was amazing or let me say heavenly. I appreciated that she did not leave the room while we’re waiting for the numbing cream to take effect. The hand massage relaxed me so much. She then removed the numbing agent with an alcohol swap to ensure that was no bacteria left on my skin.

Chantal then opened the needle from the sealed packet and inserted it into the microneedling machine. She started the treatment at 1mm to just let me get used to the sensation and changed the intensity to 1.5mm. I have to admit it was a little uncomfortable but not painful.

She minimised the intensity around my eyes to 1mm. The décolletage area was very sensitive in particular in the neck. The entire mircroneedling took about 45 minutes. After the treatment, she cleaned my face and applied Nimue Superfluid Vit C and Nimue Retinol superfluid and Aftercare hydrator which had a gentle calming effect of my skin.

I got up from the bed and from the mirror, a bright red face stared at me. The first thought was – will this settle – and a tiny bit of anxiety set in. I looked like I fell asleep in the sun, you have to agree!

Aftercare instructions:

  • Stay out of the sun
  • Only apply normal moisturiser
  • Apply SPF 50

After Treatment – Day 1

My face was very sensitive after the treatment. On the drive home I had the aircon on and I had to move the safety belt as it was mildly irritating my neck area. I did not cleanse my skin I just rinsed it with luke-warm water and applied my normal moisturiser. I had a good night’s rest and woke up feeling a little scared to look in the mirror.

Day 2

My skin settled and I followed my normal skincare routine without my serum. Chantal advised that I should only apply moisturiser and SPF50, I used the Nimue Vitamin C SPF50. I did not apply any makeup to allow my skin to recover.

Day 3

My skin looked smoother and plump, it settled nicely and was no longer sensitive. On Sunday I stayed home and celebrated my birthday and worked on a project that had a deadline for the 1st March 2019.

Day 4 – Day 6

My face had settled completely except for my neck. If this was not visible you would not know that I had any treatment done. I continued with the SPF did not wear any makeup. Making the decision to not wear any makeup was extremely difficult. I normally do not venture to work without makeup. My skin settled nicely and I have to admit that I did not miss my makeup.

Day 14

My skin is looking amazing and the texture has definitely improved and looked flawless with makeup applied. Is this the result I was looking for? For sure and the skin will continue to improve over the next 6 to 8 weeks.

Final Thought

I am so happy that I had the opportunity to experience this treatment. I have quite a few issues has been minimised with the first Microneedling treatment and I have booked my next appointment already. You should ideally have a few treatments at 4 – 6-week intervals.

The benefit of the microneedling far outweighs the little discomfort you will have during the treatment. It takes care of my current skin concerns that come with age.

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Prevent premature ageing (convincing myself I am not old) by triggering collagen production
  • Age Spots (Let me just clarify 47 is not old, depending on whose perspective you looking from but in my opinion, nope, I am 47 years young)
  • Reduce the appearance of large pores (let me be honest before the treatment they were visible from the moon)
