Guerlain Oud Essentiel Eau de Parfum Review

Guerlain Oud Essentiel Eau de Parfum Review

Today I would like to do a review on Guerlain Oud Essentiel Eau de Parfum. Perfumes are such a spoil and I absolute love smelling beautiful. I have to admit when I was introduced to Oud Essentiel I love my heart immediately.

I was invited to attend evening getting to know the history of Guerlain as well as the most exquisite perfumes in the range. Two of the perfume just stood out for me immediately. Today I will focus on the Oud Essentiel and my next review I will share the second favourite which is Mon Guerlain.

Before we get into the review, I lost my heart but was not able to purchase the perfume. There was a lucky draw and low and behold my name was chosen. Be still my beating heart is all I could think while getting up to collect my prize. Miracles do still happen.

Guerlain History

The House of Guerlain was founded in 1828, when Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain opened his perfume store. He started manufacturing custom fragrances with the help of his two sons, Aimé and Gabriel.  Pierre-François peaked in 1853 with the creation of Eau de Cologne Impériale for French Emperor Napoleon III and his Spanish-French wife Empress Eugénie. This perfume earned Pierre-François the prestigious title of being His Majesty’s Official Perfumer. Guerlain went on to create perfumes for Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Queen Isabella II of Spain, among other royalty

Since its foundation in 1828, Guerlain has created over 300 fragrances with Absolus d’Orient collection one of the latest created in 2017.

More about Absolus d’Orient

Guerlain Perfumer Thierry Wasser created new fragrance range Absolus d’Orient collection.  He drew his inspiration from the unique and precious Oud wood for the Oud Essentiel.

It is a celebration of this rare ingredient which reveals its true strength and sensuality.  It is mellow and intense, this woody leather fragrance blends the mysterious notes of leather and Frankincense and the sweet notes of Bulgarian Rose in subtle alchemy.

Oud Essentiel

Oriental leather woody, charismatic and seductive fragrance for men and women. The Oud notes are very subtle and sweet.  It has a sharp smell of Francinsense which is overwhelming at first but as soon as it settles down  (15min) it a become a beautiful oud base fragrance and I get this beautiful Rose note. I have to admit lost my heart.  It lasts for about 8 hours on me. Mid to the base is a beautiful rose,

Top Notes: Saffran notes, Pelargonium.
Heart Notes: Agarwood, Rose, Atlas Cedarwood.
Base Notes: Leather, Frankincense, Gaïac wood

Bottle

A very stylish slick green bottle. It has the beautiful Guerlain logo with a gold cap.

Longevity

I only use two sprays in the morning and I can still smell the fragrance when I get home from work. I find that it lasts up to 11hours on me.

Sillage

I get so many comments when I wear this beautiful fragrance and will give it a  8/10. You might wonder what sillage is it is a very common term used in perfume reviews and it is the degree to which a perfume’s fragrance lingers in the air when worn.

Availability

Guerlain Paris is available at Edgars Sandton, Menlyn, Eastgate and V&A, It is also available at Hero Extravagance in Brooklyn Mall. Oud Essential is retailing for R2900 for a 125ml. You probably think this is crazy but it is definitely worth the price in my opinion. This perfume will last you for a very long time. I only apply two sprays and it lasts the entire day.
